While on my whirlwind trip to Texas (which included stops in San Antonio, Austin AND El Paso over the course of five short days), I already had a ton scheduled, so I didn't really anticipate having enough time to get into some heavy thrifting. But I decided to take a detour when I happened upon St. Vincent de Paul's Thrift Store while strolling down S. Congress Ave. in Austin, especially since they HAPPENED to be having a 50%-off-everything sale. Score!
I immediately fell in love with St. Vincent--it was chock full of reasonably-priced clothing (most items I picked up were priced under $10, and that was before the 50% off discount), super clean and well organized, and the staff seemed super hip and helpful. I dug around the racks for a good 20 or 30 minutes, and came out with an green silk skirt ($4, post-discount), a black shift dress ($4.50), a patterned blazer ($8) and a gold pendant necklace ($4), and spent a total of roughly $22.
Best of all, St. Vincent's is a non-profit joint venture between the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Ladies of Charity Austin, with proceeds going to provide services and assistance to those in need. If you're ever in Austin, I definitely recommend stopping by! You can check out the blazer I scored in a photo above, and I'll be posting more of my St. Vincent finds later this week--stay tuned. :)
