We're closing in on the final days of summer, and it's definitely time to squeeze in those last few warm-weather looks before its too late. I had been hanging on to a cute gingham skirt ($4.50, The Sharing Place Thrift Store) for a month now, and knew that I had to take it out for a spin before cooler weather renders it obsolete. A lightweight, long skirt is perfect for busy days in the city--mostly because there's no need to worry about subway gusts blowing it inside out--and because it can go from casual to dressy with the right accessories. Since my Saturday activities ran the gamut from an improv show at UCB and an East Village brunch to a Union Square shopping trip and then finally a DUMBO rooftop soiree at Modavanti HQ, I needed a fun look that was comfy, cool and also stylish.
After settling on the skirt, I played up the print's picnic-inspired feel with a woven clutch (gifted, also from The Sharing Place), but decided to glam things up with gold accessories (roughly $8 altogether) and a stud-encrusted collared blouse ($7, TJMaxx). The look came out to just around $20 and head-to-toe with shoes ($20, Payless), everything totaled $40. I snapped a few photos of the outfit at the rooftop party, with Koko and I doing our best gingham-inspired Dorothy and Toto impressions.
