I had been eyeing a few skater dresses online (like this one and this one on ASOS), but with most of my liquid assets "on hold," I'd put off purchasing one. When I ran into this blue one at Goodwill for just $10, however, I couldn't resist. The abstract heart print was fun without being twee, and I loved the lightweight, summer-ready fabric.
I took the dress out for a spin last weekend while running errands in lower Manhattan. Since mobility was a priority, I wore my new Etienne Aigner suede loafers (check them out on Instagram!) that I also scored at Goodwill for just $12.99. I paired the look with a gold and black belt from Express (cost unknown!) and minimal jewelry.
A skater silhouette works especially well for people with pear shaped bodies (like me!), since it emphasizes a small waist, while the flared skirt smooths out larger hips and thighs. Plus, the short hem helps elongate less-than-model-esque legs. I also love the skater style because it's easy to dress up or down--while my look here is clearly weekend casual, paired with chunky heels and some extra jewelry, the dress would easily work for a night out. Stay tuned for a future nighttime transformation!
