Layered Up

I totally adore this daisy-print dress I picked up for $4.50 at The Sharing Place Thrift Store in East Harlem this summer--so much so that I've been brainstorming ways to wear it well into fall. I first styled it with a light blazer in August for a rooftop cocktail party, and then switched to a chunky knit and tights for a football party last month. And despite the definite chill in the air, I decided to take it for a spin again in Indiana last week, this time layering it over a cream Old Navy sweater I found at Goodwill for $7.99.

For accessories, I added a gold necklace ($10, from an NYC street vendor), floral bracelet ($1.50, scored on sale at H&M), and a borrowed quilted cream-and-black purse from a friend, then kept the shoes simple with my black Payless wedges ($20). Head-to-toe, the full look came out to just $44.

If you're thinking of layering sweaters under your dresses for fall/winter, I definitely recommend it, but make sure your dress isn't too form fitting. (Nothing's worse than a giant roll of sweater fabric bunching up under a tight dress.) But as long as you stick with a looser dress and not-too-bulky, tight-knit sweater, you should be good to go!
