Ok, so what's a girl to do when she gets a last minute invite to a pre-Halloween bash and doesn't have a costume? Throw on a little black dress of course! In addition to being a foolproof option for everything from an afterwork happy hour to a formal wedding reception, the LBD even serves as the perfect starting point for a super simple Halloween getup.
Remember the black, pleated Marc Jacobs dress (brand new with tags!) I scored at Underground Thrift's Stuff a Sack sale for just $1.50? Well, I figured it was high time to take it out for a spin, so I paired the dress with a silver and black belt ($6, from NY&Co.) and a witch hat I picked up at a dollar store for--yup, you guessed it--a dollar. Sure, it wasn't the most ORIGINAL look of the night, but I was definitely comforted by the fact that my entire look with shoes ($20) came out to around $29, which was FAR below the dress's $1,600 retail price!
The party was held at the New Museum in SoHo, and, since it was a pretty artsy crowd, there were plenty of creative costumes to admire--including a wannabe Banksy. Plus, as a bonus, we also got to check out some art installations, all while sipping on Bombay Sapphire gin cocktails. To see more party pics, check out the slideshow below. Happy Halloween!
